The Atelier Method
Our approach to art instruction is unique. Since our inception in 1987, we use the Atelier Method, a technique of fine art instruction modeled after European academies during the 15th-19th centuries. As a master guides an apprentice, students are taught by a faculty artist who works closely with them, offering individualized learning in a specific medium or genre.
World-Class Faculty
Students have the opportunity to study a variety of media with our regionally and nationally recognized artists. Faculty artists are selected to teach at the League because they have mastered their art form as recognized by museums, art centers, galleries and noted publications. They also must be seasoned teachers who can comfortably communicate with their students, teaching the technical aspects of the craft and helping to facilitate each person discovering his or her own aesthetic.
The number one reason people study at the Art Students League is our faculty; the number one reason faculty artists enjoy teaching classes is because of our students!

We are a community of artists where everyone
is welcome to share their love of art.

As a non-accredited school, every student has the opportunity to study with regionally and nationally recognized working artists in a wide selection of media. There is no set curriculum, so students are free to explore art and delve into areas of particular interest.
Outreach into diverse communities is central to the Art Students League's mission and realized through partnerships with performing arts groups, public schools, museums and other art centers.
Scholarships are available for lower income adults and children because of generous funding from our donors and foundations. Memberships may also be available through the Art Students League's Mentorship program. Please inquire at the office.
