The Atelier Method

Our approach to art instruction is unique. Since our inception in 1987, we use the Atelier Method, a technique of fine art instruction modeled after European academies during the 15th-19th centuries. As a master guides an apprentice, students are taught by a faculty artist who works closely with them, offering individualized learning in a specific medium or genre.

World-Class Faculty

Students have the opportunity to study a variety of media with our regionally and nationally recognized artists. Faculty artists are selected to teach at the League because they have mastered their art form as recognized by museums, art centers, galleries and noted publications. They also must be seasoned teachers who can comfortably communicate with their students, teaching the technical aspects of the craft and helping to facilitate each person discovering his or her own aesthetic.

The number one reason people study at the Art Students League is our faculty;  the number one reason faculty artists enjoy teaching classes is because of our students!

Our Mission

The Art Students League of Denver is an inclusive and inspiring art school and
community where students of all abilities
are guided by professional artists to
reach their highest potential.

Our Core Values

Community, Inclusiveness,
Learning and Artistic Self-Expression

As a non-accredited school, every student has the opportunity to study with regionally and nationally recognized working artists in a wide selection of media. There is no set curriculum, so students are free to explore art and delve into areas of particular interest.

And, while students have the freedom to register on a monthly basis to fit their schedule, they have continuity in learning by taking ongoing classes, workshops, lectures and other programs.  In all studio classes, instructors have the latitude to facilitate individualized learning in a style that fits their personal philosophy and integrates demonstrations, study of master artists and critique.

We believe in the continuum of art. Whether you just want to add some creativity to your everyday life or if you want to make a living as an artist, the Art Students League has something for everyone.

Students can start out learning the fundamentals of drawing, painting or sculpting, but they can take their interests as far as they want: display and sell your pieces in our galleries and Summer Art Market, and enroll in classes that teach how to market, exhibit and sell artwork.

Outreach into diverse communities is central to the Art Students League's mission and realized through partnerships with performing arts groups, public schools, museums and other art centers.

Welcome to the Art Students League. We think you’ll find just what you’re looking for.
