Creative Drawing from Reference Images
Every Tuesday from 6-9pm
Instructor: Karl Poulson
This class will explore how reference photographs can be used to create a painting or drawing of the impossible. Artists sometimes see complex and surreal visions in their mind they would like to depict and often times painting directly from the imagination isn't enough. Many artists throughout history have gone to great lengths to find references for their work, luckily we have Google these days. With a strong focus on building technique and developing observational skills, we will paint and draw from bits and pieces of photographs to create an original and otherworldly image. After all, sea serpents can't model for us!
The Art Students League also welcomes high school students 16 years or older to explore our adult classes and Open Figure Study Sessions. Students ages 16 and 17 must have a signed parental release form on file in the office. Our ongoing classes and workshops provide students greater opportunities to specialize in areas of drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, ceramics and other media.
We offer a range of summer studios for teens which run for one to two weeks providing a more intensive study of a particular medium or technique. Workshops are offered as morning and afternoon sessions.
