ASLD hosts a variety of exhibitions at our historic Grant Street location and in partnership with various creative spaces throughout the community. Representing the diversity of the thriving Denver arts community, our exhibitions also provide an opportunity to examine current trends and purchase original fine art from faculty, students, and celebrated artists from across the U.S.

Intuit in Tarot

Guest curator: Holly Hurd, ASLD Faculty

The use of tarot dates back before the 17th century and while the media typically portrays tarot card reading as a hokey means of circus tent fortune telling, it is in fact ancient, highly respected and exploding in popularity as a visual art form. Join the Art Students League as we showcase this unique and imaginative art of tarot cards all based on the 12 Major Arcana as selected by guest curator, ASLD Faculty and artist, Holly Hurd.

About the juror: Sha Towers is an Art Liaison Librarian and Director of Liaison Services at Baylor University in Waco, Texas. He first encountered Artists books in 2007, promptly fell in love with the medium, and began building a collection which now numbers over 1,000 works. Ninth in an annual series of international exhibitions of contemporary artists’ books, ASLD is pleased to host Artists’ Book Cornucopia IX, an exhibit that showcases a broad range of Artists’ Books. From traditional codex, printed letterpress, to sculptural objects and one-of-a-kind editions, this exhibition is a cornucopia of engaging and intimate genres of Artists’ Books, allowing the viewer a rare opportunity to examine the works up close as selected by guest juror Sha Towers and guest curator, ASLD faculty Alicia Bailey.

Encaustic: A Collection of Contemporary Works



  • Exhibition Dates: October 12 – Nov. 18, 2018

Encaustic is a Greek word meaning “to heat or burn in.” Encaustic painting is an ancient technique, dating back to the Greeks where heat is used throughout the process, from melting the beeswax and varnish to fusing the layers of wax.

For this invitational group show, ASLD will invite artists working with or incorporating encaustic and/or wax mediums, including cold wax and mixed mediums.

This exhibit showcases works by six award-winning artists from Art Students League of Denver’s premiere outdoor art festival, Summer Art Market, which took place Saturday, June 9 and Sunday, June 10, 2018.

Art Students League of Denver’s members and faculty are invited to submit artworks including drawing, collage, printmaking, photography, paper constructions, painting, digital prints and other works on paper.
