Location: Art Students League of Denver, 200 Grant St.
Opening Reception: Friday, November 3, 2023 | 5:30-8:00PM

Many celebrations occur worldwide during the last few months of the Gregorian calendar year. One common aspect these holidays share is that they encourage an aspect of decorating, embellishing, adorning, or some form of ornamentation. The dictionary defines ornamentation as: things added to something to provide decoration; the action of decorating something or making it more elaborate. Lights, beads, jewels, candles, sweets, gift boxes, and piñatas are just a few examples. We decorate our homes, embellish presents, and adorn ourselves in sequins or even “ugly Christmas sweaters” for the holiday office party. What occasions do you celebrate, embellish, and adorn for? Can’t think of one? Make one up! This exhibit aims to explore the art and design of ornamentation through processes, practices, methods and possibilities.
Ornamentation is a multidisciplinary, open-call show for active members of ASLD. Only one submission per artist will be accepted. Emphasis for this exhibit will be placed on 3D works, with a limited number of 2D works accepted as space allows. The holiday salon provides patrons an opportunity to purchase original art for the holiday gift-giving season. Artwork submitted for this exhibition can be available for sale at the artist’s discretion, with ASLD retaining a 40% commission on sales. Artwork should be priced for holiday gift-giving and may not exceed $250.00. The submission form is available online October 9 through October 15, 2023. Submission form will close when there is no longer space available.
For any questions or concerns regarding submission or the drop-off process, please refer to the Artwork Loan Agreement Form or contact Holly K. Hurd, Community Engagement & Exhibitions Manager at h.hurd@asld.org or call (303)778-6990 ext. 1108.
