EXHIBITION | April 8-May 22, 2022
OPENING RECEPTION | April 8, 5:30-8:30PM
The culminating exhibit of Artist-in-Residence Kevin Snipes’ time at ASLD.
ASLD’s Visiting Artist Series (VAS) brings notable artists to Denver from across the world. These artists complement existing ongoing courses and workshops, diversify our programming to include new artistic perspectives and media, and broaden teaching practices to enrich and enliven our faculty.
The Visiting Artists of Color Residency is a new facet of the Visiting Artist Series, born of the recognition that artists of color have historically been excluded from many formal art spaces, including artist residencies. Building on this knowledge, ASLD’s VAC residency seeks to take an active role in fostering equity and supporting diversity in the Colorado arts community. Selected artists will be representative of the racial diversity within the Denver metro area and open to participating in activities (workshops, exhibits, community conversations) that address specific themes and issues affecting communities of color and artists of color. Each 6-9 month long residency offers the artist access to dedicated studio space at ASLD; the opportunity to lead workshops, lectures, and community engagement programs; and culminates with an exhibition of work created throughout the residency (this may be a solo or group exhibition, as determined by the artist). Each residency is tailored to the artist’s expertise and discipline.
