This course explores various processes and approaches involved in abstract expressionist painting. During this course students will be introduced to ways of working that both facilitates ones intuitive improvisation as well as developing ones critical understanding of what makes an abstract painting successful. Through demonstrations, Class exercises, individual and group critiques, students will be introduced to new ways of working which promote discovery and artistic growth. Students will learn new techniques in the process of working abstractly and intuitively. They will also learn to understand and evaluate their own work better.
Course will include: Individual painting work; individual and group critique; art demonstration
Paper - two types; cheap lightweight and more sturdy paper
Water-based paints; various drawing implements, pencils, oil pastel, markers Etc.
1 inch masking tape
Scissors or utility knife
Various size brushes, rags, miscellaneous containers for paint and water.
Elmer's glue or some other water-based adhesive
Plastic scrapers
