Discover the essentials of sewing machines and fabrics, creating artworks of your own design.
We start by learning safety measures regarding the sewing machine and sharp/hot tools used in the sewing room. Next, we learn the parts of the machine and how to thread it. The students stitch on lined paper to text their accuracy and eye-hand coordination. Stitching strips of fabric together to make a small strip quilt is their first time working with fabric for some students. For subsequent classes we make a pillow with their initials stitched on it, shorts or pj pants are next depending on the season. We end with a lined tote bag. Student and parents alike are amazed at how much they learn and can accomplish.
