Understanding color theory in one of the most efficient ways to improve your artwork, but it can feel daunting and difficult to understand.
This second part of a three-part course is an in-depth but beginner-friendly class that will help you relax any fears you may have about seeing color within everyday life and recreating those colors in artwork.
Completion of Part One of this course and/or knowledge in color mixing is recommended but not required.
This class will be done with Acrylic paint and pervious experience with the media is also encouraged, but not required.
NECESSARY SUPPLIES WILL BE PROVDED, but you are encouraged to bring your some of your own supplies if you have it (see list below). In this class, you will be painting from a different still everyday day of class while focusing on one aspect of color in those objects. Although some would consider painting from still life a boring and tedious task, learning how to mix, paint, and see colors working together in the natural world lays a strong foundation to take your understanding of color theory to the next level. You leave this course with eyes that can see colors in more detail than a before, a better understanding of lighting within artwork, and a taste of how to manipulate color on your own artwork.
Day one: The direct painting method; Using a “puzzle piece” style of painting in order to learn how identify and mix colors in an object.
Day two: Color of Light; Learning to see lights’ effect on all colors and adjust color mixing based on that knowledge.
Day three: Shadows and dark spots; Learning to see that shadows aren’t just “dark”, but a complex mix of colors and shapes.
Day four: Color of Light 2.0; An extremely colored light bulb will be directed onto a still life to drastically change the colors. You as an artist may then decide how to interpret those colors.
