In this experimental workshop, we will use bisqued (pre-fired) tiles as a surface for creating cyanotypes. Cyanotypes were invented in 1842 and create lovely blue hued photographic images when exposed to UV light or the sun. Before leaving class, we will varnish our work to protect the cyanotype. Students will learn how to make a cyanotype on clay and should leave with multiple tiles of work.
If you want to bring your own images to use for the cyanotype, bring them as transparencies (printouts on acetate). Additionally, if you want to add a cyanotype to your own bisqued work you can however please note that you need to have your materials flush with the surface in order for the process to work. Feel free to reach out to the instructor if you have any questions.
