In this joyful and inspiring class, you will learn how to create a beautiful floral collage using both painted and specialty papers. This class is perfect for anyone who loves flowers, color, and exploring creative ways to express them through collage.
Session 1: We will start by looking at examples of floral collages for inspiration and discussing simple composition ideas. You will choose your floral reference and do a simple drawing directly onto your canvas to plan out the main shapes and layout. Then, you will begin painting papers in the colors and textures you see in your floral design.
Session 2: We will continue painting papers as needed and begin working on the background of your collage. You will design and apply your background using your painted and specialty papers, focusing on creating a harmonious base for your florals.
Session 3: We will begin collaging your flowers and leaves onto the canvas. You will cut or tear your papers and start arranging and gluing down the main floral shapes with guidance on layering, composition, and creating depth.
Session 4: Continue collaging your florals, building up layers and adding details to bring your flowers to life. I will provide individual feedback to support your vision and ensure your piece feels balanced and cohesive.
Session 5: You will keep working on your collage, refining shapes and adding accent pieces to enhance dimension and visual interest.
Session 6: Finish adding final layers and small details to complete your floral collage. We will discuss options for finishing touches and sealing your work. At the end of class, we will have a group share to celebrate everyone’s finished or in-progress pieces and the unique creativity each student brought to their art.
By the end of this class, you will have created your own original floral collage and gained confidence in using painted and specialty papers to express your love of flowers in a colorful, textured way.
