Gellie Jam: printmaking with gel plates SESSION ONE, Open to all levelsThe Gellie Jam sessions ONE & TWO cover different techniques and result in different finished take home pieces. In both four-week sessions, students will learn the fundamentals of printmaking with gel plates and quickly move into more intentional, layered compositions. The process is user-friendly and immensely satisfying. Gel plates and brayers are provided; these are yours to take home at the end of the class. On the last day of Session ONE we will also provide 2 frames with mats to use with your finished prints.
Session ONE
Week One: gel plate info and care, workstation set up, paint and paper choices, simple registration techniques, making backgrounds, subtractive techniques, simple layering, make some prints!
Week Two: color and transparency choices, make stencils and stamps, use different papers, make some prints!
Week Three: Printing with botanicals, designing with placement and layering, loosening up, make some prints!
Week Four: Over-printing existing prints, cross-pollenating techniques, additional mark making ideas, make some prints, pick two to mat and frame! The mats and frames will be provided.
On the first day of class, a 6x6 gellie plate and 4" brayer will be provided and will be used in all four sessions. These are yours to take home at the end of day four.
Supplies the students (you!) must bring
-Acrylic Paint, open acrylics are recommended, but the best acrylic to use is what you already own!
-1" Blue painters tape
-1 roll of Freezer paper
-Variety of papers to print on, get creative here: copy paper, rice paper, printmaking or multimedia paper, brown kraft, deli sheets, sheet music, old book pages etc
-Baby wipes/hand sanitizer to clean equipment
Day 3- In addition to the above bring botanicals from your own garden, or other sources. We will be using our 6x6 gel plates, so choose plant size accordingly.
Optional on all days:
Apron, nitrile gloves, clear medium or extender to retard dry time, also optional -colored pencils, markers, graphite, gel pens, to "enhance" a finished print
