Ireland, with its spellbinding landscapes steeped in mystery and legend, will be your guide to explore direct painting in watercolor. Let the breathtaking sea cliffs along the Atlantic Ocean or the quaint thatched roof cottage that dots the countryside inspire you as we study how to use the arrangement of shapes to create perspective, depth, and distance. Focusing on interesting shapes, accurate values, and subtleties of color temperature will be key to painting the intriguing ancient castles. Let your paintbrush transport you to this enchanting destination without leaving home.
Reference material provided. Introductory watercolor experience needed. In addition to developing skills using color, value, shapes, and edges, students will gain an understanding of composition and perspective in a painting.

- Watercolor Paper or Watercolor Block (9” x 12” or larger) 140lb cold press

- Watercolor Brushes (#6 and #8 round, 1”- 1 1/2” flat)

- Watercolor Paints (These are the colors I use. I paint with Winsor Newton and Holbein but there are other excellent brands such as Daniel Smith and Sennelier. Bring your own favorites.) Cadmium Red, Alizarin Crimson, Indian Red, Rose Dore, Cadmium Yellow, Lemon Yellow, Transparent Yellow, Yellow Ochre, Burnt Sienna, Raw Umber, Olive Green, Perylene Green, Terre Verde, Cerulean Blue, Ultramarine Blue, Cobalt Violet, Mineral Violet
