The street setting sparks the artist's curiosity with its multitude of potential compositional avenues. Using storefronts, sidewalks, pedestrians, and cars, study how to simplify all the "noise" of this complex subject down to big shapes and value masses. Take a side street to work with a monochromatic color scheme on a quiet neighborhood scene. Explore using details like telephone poles, stop signs, and traffic lights for final touches to your adventuresome painting. Artistic success is just around the corner! Reference material provided. Introductory watercolor experience needed.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES: In addition to developing skills using color, value, shapes, and edges, students will feel comfortable using a monochromatic color scheme and gain an understanding of composition and perspective in a painting.
