Learn to balance the requirements of literal accuracy with a freedom to paint portraits that reveal more than a camera can capture. We'll cover the essentials of accurate portrait painting, but spend time pushing beyond strict accuracy to make paintings with integrity, individuality, and idiosyncracy.

Assortment of brushes; I use hogs bristle filbert brushes; 2 #4, 2 #6, a #8, and a small detail brush, like a watercolor #0

Odorless Mineral Spirits (don't go cheap for the mineral spirits, get that from an art supply store like Meiningers or Guirys)
Palette for your paint (I like the large Masterson palettes, but a 12x16 painting panel covered in wax paper works fine)
Assortment of paints (student grade is fine):

- Regular sized Yellow Ochre

- Cadmium Yellow (hues are fine)
