Participants will be introduced to wood and paper types, carving tools, inks, brayers, and tools for making the impression on the paper (a small wooden burnisher, and a conventional “etching and relief” press).
The instructor will discuss how to store and safely transport paper, ink, tools, and equipment so that participants can set up shop in their own home studio (possibly a kitchen table), or bring equipment for use in the print room at Art Students League of Denver.
“Loaner” carving tools are available for use as needed.
There will be brief demos of steps of the process each class period, to familiarize participants with tried-and-true details of the process of making handsome woodcut prints.
We will also briefly discuss multi-block color prints, and color/reduction woodcut prints.
