Professional Development

Paul Manaster

Robert took a position with the Singer Manufacturing Co. (Simanco) in 1977 as a trainee at their repair facility in Denver, vicinity of Colfax Ave/Federal Blvd. This was a company-run facility from the “Singer Shop In Every MalI in The Known Universe” era. Initially motivated by the rest of his non-remunerative life playing music. (He had made a conscious decision not to join the ranks of public school educators due in part to the history curriculum requirements in many local public schools).

During that 1-2 year (planned) experience, he discovered the unexpected satisfaction of “fixing broken things”. Two plus forty years later, he carries not only the training and experience those years brought but an understanding of the common frustrations sewists face with their (apparently moody) equipment.

To date, his most recurring satisfactions are singing a song well and watching lights come on for someone who finally understands how to dance with a sewing machine.
