How did you first get involved with ASLD and when?

I first became aware of ASLD when I met former Board member, Taylor Kirkpatrick, in the Leadership Denver program in 2003. He encouraged me to become involved with the Board, and from there I started taking courses, as did my two kids.

How has ASLD shaped you as an artist?

The freedom to take any course in any media from any instructor has really allowed me to grow and get comfortable trying new things.

What faculty members have you taken courses with as ASLD?

Sooo many! I don’t know that I can name them all…I’m afraid I’ll forget some. But I’ve enjoyed every one of them.

What do you like about the ASLD community?

The diversity in media, ages of artists, backgrounds and stories. The unbelievably committed staff, board and faculty who make it all work.

Anything else you want to share with us?

Can’t wait to be back! Rachel is currently on a leave of absence and will return to ASLD in early July 2021. She and her daughter Sara recently created a series of art books, pictured below, on the many potato varieties found in Ireland.
