In addition to offering courses in more traditional visual arts media, ASLD also offers a variety of courses in specialty topics such as fiber arts, jewelry, alternative process photography, and more.


Our fiber arts courses will teach you the basics of working with fiber and fiber tools, from sewing to felting to fusion.

The ASLD Fiber Arts Studio is fully equipped with sewing machines, sergers, drafting tables, and sewing tools, so that students have everything they need to create a fully-finished project.

Our jewelry courses offer students a chance to dive into metalsmithing.

Students gain all the essential skills through projects ranging from simple bangles and rings, to cuffs and chunky necklaces.

In each course students design their own pieces from start to finish, thereby gaining insight into jewelry design as well as fabricating techniques.

Our alternative photography courses are prefect for experienced photographers looking to expand their range.

Our alternative photography courses take you on a unique adventure with hand-applied photographic processes using historic chemical techniques and large-format cameras.

Our mixed media courses guide students in making work using two or more media.

At ASLD we appreciate that creativity doesn’t fit inside a box, and we strive to provide opportunities for our students to combine their artistic skills in order to create something completely different. These courses are perfect for students looking to try a new medium and expand on their existing techniques.
