Join us in this PMC Jewelry Workshop!
PMC (Precious Metal Clay) is a specialized clay made from fine particles of metal (in this case silver), mixed with an organic binder and water. This allows it to be manipulated into various shapes and textures, similar to working with any clay. It is then fired in a ceramic kiln to burn out the organic material, leaving behind 99.9% pure sintered silver.
***Class Dates: Saturday February 7th, Sunday February 8th and Saturday February 14th***
Day one: artists will roll, texture, and form the precious metal clay into a pendant and a pair of earrings. We will refine and prepare the clay for firing in the kiln.
Day two: will be spent polishing and putting a patina on your jewelry. We will also set a lab created gemstone and make more jewelry. Day three: will be spent polishing and putting a patina on your jewelry made last week. We will use sterling silver findings and natural leather cord to complete our jewelry pieces into wearable works of art.
It is helpful for students new to PMC to watch process videos online (cool tools.us, youtube, etc) to gain an understanding of the clay and to get ideas for what to make.
